Sea (see & sea) Lab (study) X (explore)
Simple scientific solutions to explore and understand the world.
At SeaLabX, we stand at the intersection of science, technology, and humanity. Driven by a passion for discovery, we empower everyone to explore the world through a scientific lens. By connecting curious minds and democratizing access to exploration tools, we foster a global community dedicated to understanding and protecting our planet.
While our curiosity spans all scientific disciplines, our heart beats for the blue: we specialize in oceanography and the study of the aquatic microbiome, bridging the gap from land to sea.
We create solutions to quantify and understand the microbiome within holistic systems. By combining rigorous research, development, and innovation, we strive to share knowledge and foster education, making microbiome science actionable and accessible.
Born from the Plankton Planet initiative, SeaLabX was founded to design and deploy innovative solutions for scientific research. The project emerged from the energy of a community of engaged makers — including Noan Le Bescot (today SeaLabX), David Le Guen & Thibault Pollina (today FairScope).
While some of the very first prototypes were developed within this collaborative framework, the creation of SeaLabX by Noan Le Bescot marked a pivotal step: structuring and professionalizing the development and production of these tools. This evolution ensures that our low-cost, accessible instruments are reliable enough to empower users worldwide to contribute to science, staying true to our mission of democratizing exploration.
Empower your research with tools designed for discovery. From collect and observations to quantification and genetic tracking, see the invisible world clearly and act for its preservation.

From laboratory rigor to field reality
At SeaLabX, we push the boundaries of aquatic exploration by designing instruments that combine high scientific precision with operational robustness. Our tools operate in situ, allowing you to observe and sample microscopic life directly in its natural environment with minimal alteration.
With the Curiosity microscope, capture high-definition images of living organisms in real time. By combining optical performance with ergonomic design, our instruments transform your observations into actionable scientific data (size, morphology, abundance). Paired with the Lamprey system, this setup enables you to go further, achieving precise measurements and comprehensive genetic monitoring of an ecosystem.
Our approach goes beyond hardware: we deploy an ecosystem integrating simple, reliable technologies with protocols derived from fundamental research. This synergy simplifies data acquisition, organization, and analysis, while ensuring full compatibility with existing scientific platforms. Powerful, open, and adaptable, our tools are designed to facilitate research and exploration.
Microscopic science, open to all
Accessibility is the cornerstone of our approach. We design intuitive and robust instruments, making microscopic observation accessible to both seasoned researchers and non-specialist enthusiasts.
Portable and autonomous, our devices break free from the constraints of laboratory benches. Whether on oceanographic vessels, sailboats, in remote areas, or classrooms, SeaLabX technology adapts to your context to expand the frontiers of scientific observation.
Because science should have no financial barriers, we carefully manage our costs to offer high-quality, affordable tools. This democratization is supported by comprehensive resources: clear documentation, practical guides, and open materials ensure rapid adoption and total autonomy for every user.
Innovating responsibly, built to last
At SeaLabX, innovation goes hand in hand with environmental and human responsibility. We design instruments that are durable, repairable, and evolutive, standing firmly against planned obsolescence.
Our philosophy is built on simple, modular architectures. By providing technical guides and open resources, we empower users to maintain and upgrade their own tools, ensuring their long-term longevity.
Every choice, from materials to manufacturing processes, is guided by our commitment to reducing our ecological footprint. We prioritize durable components and responsible supply chains. Finally, we believe that the most meaningful innovation stems from collaboration: SeaLabX is dedicated to building ecosystems of trust where science, technology, and community progress together.
